The Titanic Mod - 10 Years

Posted by Mr Robville @ 10:16pm BST on Sunday 11th September 2016[4 Comment(s)]

Today has been a special day. Around 4 PM (GMT+1) this afternoon it has been precisely 10 years since I've announced the Titanic mod here on Mafiascene and started working on it from that day on till this very moment. At the time I figured that 3 months would be more than enough time to finish it. Little did I know.

Even though it has taken me a decade to work on the mod at this point, I will continue as always until it's done.
I want to thank everyone here on Mafiascene who has helped me and supported me during the past ten years. You guys are the reason I love modding Mafia and continue to do so, and I hope you'll all keep enjoying the updates I post.

2016 has been a rather quiet year. I spent some time doing modelling for 3rd parties, had to get settled with my new job and bought a car that had to get some love. All possible because of this very project that got me into 3D in the first place.
I'll do my absolute best to work more frequently on the mod as I ain't planning on spending another decade, as much as I'd love to. Wink

As some sort of thank you towards all the people who have been following this for a while, I made this compilation video showing the progression throughout the years of development.

Thanks again everyone and greetings from the Netherlands!

Ahh, you got old. :S

We all did.

I was already old, now I am antiquated. Cheeky

btw my late father was born in the same year that the Titanic
sailed and subsequently tragically sank; he was born in the
January of that year (1912) the ill-fated ship sailed on her
maiden voyage April 10th 1912 and five days later struck
the iceberg on April 15th 1912 - my father would have been
around 2 months old... I never did ask my Grandfather (my dad's father)
when he was still alive if he remembered the event. He was born in
1878, so he would have been around 33 years old when it happened.

Thought you'd be interested. LOL - Laugh out Loud

That's pretty cool actually Cheeky
I'm sure it must have been a big event for your grandfather. Like how we experienced 9/11 basically. Not as huge of course, but for that time a disaster of large proportions.

Yeah I became quite older. But for the better. Cheeky The only thing that I got rid off was my annoying attitude and insecurity, which I can both miss like a sore tooth.
Lots of folks around me who were also gamers have now settled down and even have kids. Still though, I'm not feeling like a late bloomer or anything as if this project holds up my life. On the contrary actually. While some struggle to find jobs, I have a huge portfolio to display. If this mod did held me back, I would be able to spend hours a day working on it due to free time. Cheeky

You also got rid of your beautiful youthful profile. :p

I have to hand it to you, you were one of a million ten years ago, but now you're one of a kind.

IF your\'re still in contact with Paulie\'s actor, maybe he could lend his voice for the Titanic Mod.

Sadly he did yeah, George DiCenzo was pretty famous in his own right. Not sure about Mike Sorvino but I still have fairly frequent contact with Paulie\'s actor over Instagram.

re: music files From what I\'ve seen the (licensed) music *.ogg files have been replaced with stubs in the Mafia 1 GOG release.

I\'d actually attribute the removal of the songs to expired licenses.

Thing is, I do remember the song ending \'wing wong..\' on my original version. Maybe it\'s just a bug :k

That culprit could possibly be the Chinatown song, though I\'m not sure.

I had the old version on my PC too, but on my laptop I had to get the GoG version - and I have a suspicion they cut out part of one of the songs in case of racism complaints :k

I think it was a matter of code somewhere, but I may me wrong. I have an old legal version still installed and I didn\'t need any of these fancy new versions Wink

Ah, so it didn\'t need to he pasted in from an external source? I know that\'s how some people got around it

Some guys at the Polish forum made a patch that brought the music back to the game, apparently the music files were never deleted in GoG and Steam versions.

Was the GoG dispute over Mafia\'s music ever resolved?
