Itís unfortunate to say, but there will be no

the game will be negatively received by critics.

Sure reminds me of the Driv3rgate issue, eh? Though in the latter case the press were allegedly bribed into giving out positive reviews, only to end in complete backlash when players themselves encountered serious issues within the game.

Looks like Mafia 3 has some serious problems on PC as the game is locked to 30fps. The first reviews on steam are very bad.

Don't pre-order it!

More here: http://www.pcgamer.com/mafia-3-appears-to-be-locked-to-30fps-on-pc/

I was just thinking of this issue, and having read
some comments from other sources especially
from those who imho are obvious Mafia (game)
haters; saying they are not bothered with the
30fps lock - "yeah it runs ok on my PC" [crap]

...yeah and look at what happened with GTAIV
which was locked at 30fps to begin with and
Oh how that was like playing in thick treacle
until someone found a way to change the GPU
range in the ini settings or was this one of the .cfg
files and or the GTAIV.exe

You would have thought developers these
days would have learnt their lesson from
past mistakes/blunders like this. Sarcastic

PS: on a side note Off Topic sorry:

I remember back in the day when you could
boast because you had the top dog graphics
processor/card - the days when the benchmark
choice game was Quake III - when if you
could get above 100+fps you were the bee's knees.
Mind you that was when PC gaming was true
PC gaming.

Now with games running at locked 30fps it seems
pointless bragging on how better your GPU is.

The number of asshat comments I see on other
sites browsing the intrawebs stating:
"Da hooman eye can only take in 24FPS at
a time"
... yeah I think Mr R explained this.
How you view fluidity in video games is
not based on how we look at movies - the
only time that games are fine with similar
frame rates is mostly in pre-rendered cutscenes
or that is what I am logically assuming.

Personally I don't mind playing at less than 60 fps, but it's an insult for those who invested time and money on a top-dollar rig. I just don't want to sound elitist or like those so-called "PC Master Race" crowd who would condescend at those with lesser systems.

I recently watched this video on YouTube comparing the seminal Thief with AAA of today, in that they criticised the overuse of what I derisively term as "training wheels" - quest markers and the X-ray vision mechanic as popularised by the Batman: Arkham series, and indeed the author made a point at how gaming has become rinse-and-repeat over and over instead of a unique experience on each game you try out.

Update :

Today i installed the game , (downloaded from steam)

I played it like for 2-3 hours at the 30 fps limit .

Its playable but i don't really enjoyed those frames .

And here is the FIRST PATCH comes at . 16/10/09 about 2AM (in european time)

An 1,2 Gb , steam patch , which allows you to set tha framerate to 30 - 60 - or Unlimited

So its on live guys . You can play Mafia 3 at 60 fps BUT with LOW settings .

So i got this machine :

i7 3770
AMD R9 390 8GB (updated Crimson 16.10.1 driver
16 GB 1600mhz ram

The game runs from an Adata SSD .

So what is the deal with this ?

I can play the game on 50-60 fps , and its real smooth BUT , only in low settings .

But the biggest surprise is : When i change the graphics from High - to Low

Nothing happens

Like seriously .

I can't see the difference .

The game is nice with on High and also nice on low settings too .
Nothing happens , just the frame goes higher .

So if u want to get good frames in Mafia 3 , lower your settings .
You aint gonna see any difference trust me .

Btw . nice console port hangar guys , good job , well done Applause

Collectors edition is trash, wasted $180 AUD on this.

For a game with driving, why are there no cars or figurines!

A CD with music would be far more useful than a couple of LPs I'll never play.

That's why a simple wait for an independent review can save you a lot of trouble and money. If the game remains as it is, I give it half a year before I can find it at the discount corner.

Kaminsky's comment is of course sarcasm.

I guess the only reason why there's no difference when turning the graphics down is because they are already down by default. Laughing

Here is an article from Tech Report:
Mafia 3 hit by review mob in response to capped frame rate
Quote:
Regardless of whether the capped framerate
was an oversight or a directorial decision, it sends
the message to PC gamers that they were an
afterthought. The outcry that resulted from the news
was immediate and loud, and the game's Steam rating
is already wearing concrete shoes...

Quote:
Mafia III has been intended as a PC release
since its announcement, so Hangar 13 doesn't really
have an excuse for the oversight. The language in
the statement suggests the developer didn't spend
much time testing their game on PC, nor did they
take even a moment to look into what PC gamers
expect. It's possible the team made the decision to
patch PC-specific options in after release to hit the
October 7 release date. If that's the case, a release
delay for the PC version may have been better
received.
If you're thinking of picking up the
game in , you might want to wait until those
patches are in place.

I will post Tech Report's review *here*

Just when you think that GTA IV was the worst port of all time, Hangar 13 has outdone R* with this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W-RqmLFlWRg

While it's understandable that dual-core processors are becoming more and more ill-suited for gaming, even graphically similar titles can run on Pentiums like the G3258 and the Skylake-based G4400 with little to no issues. From what I heard the game's way too CPU-intensive for its own good.

what also baffles me is why (and think about this) in the recommended settings it says o/s Windows 7 WTH... we now have Windows 10 and DirectX 12. For a game that is released in 2016 and in the last quarter it is already out of date technically and structurally.

wOW Shocked

This is a funny video.

Of course its not running smooth in a dual core processor .

No offense i see your point in it .

but seriously Its 2016 and not 2006

Try GTA 5 or even GTA 4 on a dual core processor
It gonna lagg out of the world on 30 fps .

Btw. yeah Muggy's got a great reply .

I remember this picture :

https://cdn.2kgames.com/mafiagame.com/mafiaCarPCSpecs-full.jpg

So whats the point with the DX 11 and the Win 7

I don't get it like seriously.

Very happy

Oh My Days.... what also got my gigglebox started is
his resolution of 1920 x 1080 - even at 1280 x 720
the game would have struggled with a dual-core.
It doesn't take rocket science to know that since
the introduction of the 800/900 series of Nvidia
GTX cards; these rely heavily on the performance
of the CPU that would be able to support their
performance. Now with the 1000 series at present
they do function with the i5 and i7 Intel quad cores
but (and someone can confirm this) I would guess
that Intel and also AMD are working on a new
batch of CPU's to match the potential of the latest
Nvidia Pascall GPUs.

Some games do have some issues when running on dual-core processors, like what you mentioned with GTA V. That being said those can be more or less mitigated, and it wasn't as egregious as the case with Mafia III being barely playable. And I don't like the materials/shaders used ingame either - chrome looks like as if the surface normals are whacked out or something; it was way better on the previous game yet they screwed it up.

[Rant] My concern is that having said (although probably to keep us quiet)
that Mafia III was going to be primarily a PC game but would also
be available on consoles as well. They then did a U-turn and made
it primarily for consoles and then ported it from console to PC.

Although you can change the resolution to your monitor's native
res.. the actual result is mostly 720p expanded to fit. The textures
are not full HD or if they had optimized it fit in with today's 2K
and 4K UltraHD... the graphics might have been pretty damn good.
But what we have got is a game that runs like a console game with
interaction that would be suited for a controller with multiple
buttons rather than a few key-strokes and a mouse. For example
there is an option to perform a certain movement/attack where
as you usually use the same fire button e.g. left mouse button
to either shoot or if holstered to punch... you have to press
[blah! key] + [meh! key] + [dah! key] stand on your head
for a simple move or special move to be precise.. This
game has not been optimized for PC whatsoever.

To be totally honest I would rather they had delayed
the PC version to optimize it as a PC version and
not a piss poor console port... [/End Rant]
