http://www.onlysp.com/mafia-iii-announcement-presumably-coming-soon-according-voice-actor/

Just a few weeks ago, 2K announced their new studio in Novato, California, Hangar 13, which has been presumed to be working on the third installment in the Mafia series. By now, however, its pretty obvious that an announcement for Mafia III isn’t very far off, and if the voice actor of Vito from Mafia II is to be believed, that announcement is coming “very soon”.

Rick Pasqualone, the voice actor of Vito, recently made a remark to a Twitter follower of his that he’ll have Mafia news “very soon”. In other Tweets he said the same thing to people asking about Mafia III, so if that doesn’t confirm the game’s imminent announcement I’m not sure what else would.

Maybe we’ll seen an announcement for the game at PAX South which runs from January 23-25th in San Antonio, Texas. The game is rumored to be set in Louisiana, so maybe it would make sense to make the announcement in a Southern state, just for shits and giggles?

We’ll be sure to keep you updated on all the latest regarding Mafia III, so don’t forget to follow us on Facebook and Twitter for instant updates when we get them.

There have been rumblings on and off past year or so. Some Asian-games store last month just listed Mafia III for PS4 and Xbox One before it was quickly pulled.

Here's hoping we get something soon I'm waiting!!!!

we waited 10 years for Mafia II and it was.....disappointing.

I still play it, and I have accepted it as a game in its own right...but it was NOT mafia II if you know what I mean

Corndogs and Grits. Laughing

without the creativity of Davra, not sure if I am
really that excited about this.

If however a third instalment just happens to be
good, let's hope they stop there. Cautious

That's because they spent most of their time developing the beautiful engine used in MAFIA II. If it wasn't for that, the game would have released in 2005 or 2004.

two days later................

The only problem I have with the possibility of this third
game of the franchise being set in Louisiana which would
come under the New Orleans Crime Family or equivalent,
is the fact that organized crime in the deep south especially
that of Sicilian origin is almost completely defunct. The once
Marcello family are all but finished. This would rule out an era
of a more up to date setting e.g. 70s onwards.

However having said that I wonder if we are going to see
a continuation from the late 1950s - the 1960s (did New Orleans
have its heyday during this time?)

I think that's actually a good thing, I wouldn't want a MAFIA game that is set in 70s. It should be set only during the times when Fedora was a thing.

To be honest, New Orleans was actually one of the most developed city in the USA since 40s.

I think the fact that the game probably takes place in a New Orleans look-alike city is indiactive of a game set during the prohibition or a little onwards, during the height of American organized crime. What makes me draw this conclusion? ...the jazz.

Don't think so, as the prohibition was already dealt with
in Mafia CoLH i.e. the first game. We covered early 30s
in that game mid/late 40s - early 50s in the second.

It would be interesting to see what era the devs will
concentrate on. The possibility is that it may not
necessarily be about the Mafia as in Sicilian based, but
then they would have to rename the title that did not
have Mafia in it. Sarcastic

My concern is that I don't want to see a sort of "let's
just make another game with Mafia in the title"

Another thing is I wonder if Daniel Vavra envisaged
that this third game may not be successful; his ideas
for Mafia II were totally changed or not fully implicated
which was one of the reasons he walked out.

* 'Aren't I the sceptical one.' *

You make a good point, Muggy. I have hopes it won't be, in a way, listless. I wonder how the writers will continue the story.
The New Orleans crime family was made of Italian and Sicilian Americans, and worked with those in Chicago, Kansas City and St. Louis.
I was going on the notion that the game would be retroactively worked into M: CoLH, a prequel to the first game. Excuse me, I imbibe the succulence of a Mafia redux. I speak like a child when it comes to video games.
I should save all my speculation for later Wink

It would be nice to see some kind of game involving The Commission as started by Lucky Luciano, but that might be hoping far too much. Laughing

Let's hope it will be announced and developers take their time and it won't be like Mafia 2 (40-50% content cut...).

New Orleans could work. Would be during the height of the jazz scene there. 1960's, Miles Davis, etc. Music would feature prominently in the game.

Would be a fairly unique setting for a video game. See:
