I decided to try out some ancient nostalgic games that I used to play a long long time ago. Practically any game before 2003 refuses to work on Windows 7 so I managed to get Windows 98, XP and Windows 3.1(for the heck of it) to work using a VMware Workstation virtual machine.
One of the first games I firstly installed on Windows 98 is GearHead Garage:
It's an old mechanic game where you can fix and modify cars. That's it. Simplicity at it's finest. But it is a very addicting game though.
Does anyone else play some ancient games with nostalgic value nowadays?
(oh btw, I missed that Windows 98 startup sound. whheeeeeaaauuuuwwwaaaaaaaammmm) _________________

Ah yes...long gone days:
Unreal Tournament (the original)
Doom and Doom 2
Quake and Quake Arena
Used to play these regularly on my old puter
was running an old Athlon XP 1.47ghz CPU
1gig of DDR Ram and an Nvidia NV25 (GeForce 4 Ti 4600)
60GB HDD, Soundblaster card. Some of the original games
like the original Red Faction where groundbreaking for their
time. There were others that I know I played but can never
remember the names. Hopefully as others post something may
spark a light in the old memory tank.
Good topic Mr Robville. _________________

Oh man, Delta Force. I'm surprised how well the visuals still hold up, but I guess that's to be expected of games heavily utilizing voxels. My brother and I played DF and DF2 all the time back in the day. I'll have to see if I've still held on to the CDs. |

I seem to remember a time in my life when I was very much in love with Abandonware on my P1 166 MhZ PC back in the 1990's and early 2000's. Man I had some times, but the games that stand out most in my memories are Championship Manager 1992/1993 which was already a relic and most of all Mad TV, which was about running your own TV station and is still one of the most complex games I ever played.
You guys might want to check those out, or at least the last one if you're not into football. |

The very first video game I ever played was a DOS on my Windows 95, the one and only Red Baron 3D, released in 1990:

Ooh I remember Delta force. A friend of mine had it on a laptop. They were one of the first I knew who had a laptop back then. Such amazing graphics on such a small device!
I also remember the endless landscapes in this game. If you wanted, you could go 10 miles into one direction without the game limiting the environment's boundaries. Not that there were any plants or objects though. _________________

Tomb Raider III 1998
and this game I can never remember
the title but used to play it in days
of yore.

ohh.. The nostalgic games. I don't play alot of them anymore, and if I do, it's very rarely that I do.
Unreal Tournament '99
Industry Age II
Age of Empires I (which, for some reason, I liked more than II. Idk, maybe it'd be different to this day today..- We'll see, have yet to get playin' AoE 2 some time)
Now.. I can't remember if it was Tomb Raider 2 or 3.. I think it was 2.
Commandos Behind Enemy Lines
Mafia 1, of course
Soldier of Fortune II, considered a very gory game back in the days
Call of Duty 2
Brothers in Arms Bound in Blood
Heroes of Might and Magic IV
The Sting
Grom Terror in Tibet (Way too underrated)
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Battle Nexus
Prisoner of War
That's the games I can remember. All played on my uncle's Windows XP PC, back when I attended kindergarten. One hour of play in the evening. Good times! |
