Installed it right now and when I open it says on servers' tab: "Error contacting the master server, please try again later."

Hi. It's year 2018 now.
What happened to mafia multiplayer?
It is cancelled? It can't find ANY servers.
Why it is cancelled? This game must have Multiplayer. |

Hello. To understand why the project is no longer running, let me briefly introduce our story.
I set up LHMP back in 2013 with ZaKlaus and Davo. That time it was all about passion and self-realization - Mafia was our favorite game and we were highly motivated to bring a multiplayer mode that time. Despite being really young (that time I was 17 whereas ZaKlaus and Davo were two and three years younger, respectively.), we managed to create a proof of concept and throught the time a heavily-bugged multiplayer mode with few features.
It was back in 2015 when the interest into project started to decline. The project hadn't been advancing for a while and it suffered from poorly reversed engineered game and bad code guidelines. No wonder, that time none of us had any professional, academic, nor long-term experience with programming.
Eventually, I decided that it doesn't make sense to anything without being supported by fans and team members. Coincidentally, it happened shortly before enrolling in university where I started to focus mostly at studying as it was and I still consider it as once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to improve myself.
I switched long hours of wasting my time in front of OllyDbg, Cheat Engine and Visual Studio with better understanding of maths, C/C++, compilers, and logical systems and I don't regret it. It's been almost three years, yet I can feel I've learnt a lot though I feel respect for Mafia as it gave me a knowledge of big picture, at least as long as computers and programs are concerned.
In conclusion, I'd like to point out why we no longer participate at any Mafia mode brining multiplayer. We've learned a lot and we feel there are a lot of challenges in front of us.
In case you'd like to search for our source code files or videos, there is a domain I bought for this purposes as someone bought our lh-mp.eu and wants $500 for it (suckers).
You can find everything mentioned above at mafia-mp.eu
Best regards
- Roman

Actually, it's possible to connect to desired IP:port server manually. You can enter a dialog window upon clicking on [->] icon at the window of server list.
Masterserver is no longer running as I'm too lazy to compile it under Linux. Another problem would be the fact that our system relied at master.lh-mp.eu domain which is no longer in our hands, damn it. |

I had a master server running, but I turned it off a while back because I didn't think people would even play it. I fixed a few things in the client/server too.
I'll turn on the master list again and hopefully that'll satisfy some people.
This is for the old LH-MP though, not that co-op thing.
Also, I should note that there is no traffic or anything. It's all gotta be scripted.

I can host one server with my internet with optic cable [low ping]
if that's possible? I know how to port death match mode all but
don't know how to get server to master list to see all player I'm
ready to host with my net 24/7 all the way in 2019. It will be nice for
us mafia fanatics to get together on one server when it is holidays.... |

LHMP got some fresh wind!
Master server is working again.
There are also some 24/7 servers hosted.
There is a new community that continues developing LHMP.
Meanwhile LHMP is open source and availabe at github:
https://github.com/VortrexFTW/lhmp-old
Vortrex is the main dev. He already did some great progress with better synch and new funcionality.
You can download latest client and server files at his website:
https://vortrex.info/lhmp
LHMP Discord server available at:

Let's make LHMP great again |

Hey guys,
as an addendum to Romop's post related to LHMP discontinuing development, I'd like to share my thoughts and experience during the development.
As Romop has mentioned, we started young and inexperienced, this led to many design flaws and issues, causing various game crashes, weird bugs and messy code. Somewhere near the end of 2014, I've decided to step back from the project to invest more time into learning the magic of programming properly.
Back in 2013, I only knew C#, PHP and few other small languages, my experience with C++ was very limited and especially for a project like LHMP, unsuitable. This led to my further demotivation of lacking a skill to maintain my own code and being too ignorant to embrace programming properly.
As I've mentioned, somewhere near 2014, I took some time to study things properly, being still on the high school (17 years old), I found a great resource of material I could choose from. It's when I found out about Handmade Network, Casey Muratori or Jonathan Blow, influencing me towards better programming principles, as well as a couple of books helping me with mathematics and such.
Since then, I felt a dramatic difference between what I saw fine in 2013, that could be considered pig code today. Looking back at LHMP, it's sadly one of those projects that might be difficult to refactor and sustain the development. In late 2015, it was already late, the project has been discontinued, while we still provided some limited support for it.
The 3 years long pause brought many fruits however, now speaking on of the original team, I consider ourselves better learned, skilled and experienced to do more complicated tasks, while still striving for the betterment of us. Each of us working on cool things, either for university or as a hobby, I recommend checking out Romop's GitHub, as it contains various cool libraries he worked on during his study. Meanwhile, DavoSK tinkered with the gray area world a bit more, working on various experiments related to reverse engineering and Mafia stuff.
Some of us (Davo and me) have decided to give Mafia multiplayer a second try somewhere in October 2018 however. The prerequisite was to have at least considerable amount of Mafia's game code reverse engineered, so that we won't have to be slowed down by it. During those 3 years, DavoSK worked on unofficial Mafia SDK and has reverse engineered important parts of the engine to create a new multiplayer.
I exactly remember the same day, we've decided to create LHMP, the moment has repeated itself. Davo had a prototype of pedestrian sync with boilerplate code ready to be worked on and we've decided to actually work on it. Crazy idea, considering the fact the multiplayer development is time-consuming task to take. We tried it however.
The first steps were taken, we've refactored the entire code DavoSK wrote as an experiment and expanded it into a solid multiplayer code base. Soon after, car sync was added, as well as various car features, such as wheel or component sync, car's health or even car visual damage itself (we have synced vertex differences for a car). I've successfully managed to introduce neat server modding API that should make most of these features more interesting, due to them being exposed to server owners.
But no development goes without its issues. Due to the nature of multi-player modifications, crashes can happen *randomly*. Only a few days ago, we've been able to play without any crashes during a longer sessions. Granted, we still have crashes to be fixed, but things get more solid now.
I will share a dev video later this day, showcasing what the new multi-player is capable of. Thank you everyone for years of support.
EDIT: The video is here Oakwood dev video. |

Thank you for your undying efforts and great work! I'm glad you are returning to the Mafia Multiplayer scene. I look forward to more progress and good luck!
Also, could it be possible that you and DavoSK could release this unofficial Mafia SDK? This might help new modders and even mod veterans break old barriers and create bigger and better things.
I can only imagine what this would be like when used along side Mr. Robville's Titanic mod. You could have a bunch of players do a hide and seek deathmatch or simply look around the ship together. |

Hi, we will eventually release Mafia SDK to the open source once it gets more solid. At the moment, we're still tweaking and adding some features, so the base is quite volatile.
Thanks for the interest!

I remember a lot of cool moments during the LHMP with the community. Especially those modded servers are really neat to play at. I'd love to see those old pictures if you'd like to share, this brings a lot of nostalgic moments.

Finally found a few, circa December 2014. Can't quite believe it was that long ago!

I wonder what it would've been like if Mafia came with multiplayer built in. If I remember correctly, Mafia was gonna have a patch or update for a multiplayer mode, but it never came out. |
