Hello, I'm collecting all mafia 1 releated things (Patches, information, images etc...) and i'm done collecting all patches released but i found some info about 1.3... Is that the Steam and GOG versions? That would make sense to me. Also, would anyone be interested if i release my collection of mafia things? I'm also considering to make a wiki page update for the game including patches, what patches changed, beta stuff etc... |

1.0 of course, the original version. Probably the nicest looking due to some changes in 1.1.
1.1 is the only official patch. Changes several odd things, solves a couple of minor issues. For example, in 1.0 drivers parking cars and opening their doors into traffic are immovable objects and you can suddenly run into one while driving. In 1.1 you can clip through the door and actor, which makes driving nicer if slightly less "cinematic." But eye animations were removed in 1.1
1.0 and 1.1 have different file structures and therefore a lot of mods won't work on both.
1.2 and 1.3 aren't English patches. But, they have been sold as English copies. I believe they may be localizations of 1.1. There may be small file differences as acknowledged by some tools, but it's pretty much 1.1 compatible. Good luck finding a change list; as I said, these patches don't exist.
As for the differences, I recommend a quick search, it's a good read
Well...I did a search just now and I don't like what I see. Mainly, we seem to be missing a bunch of topics. Are we culling topics here to save space? Cause this here
http://mafiascene.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=9912&highlight=paper+clip
should be a fine list of differences between 1.1 and 1.0, and it's not. It's nothing. It does remind me of the "paper clip" difference. There are no paper clips in 1.1.
I hardly see the point of going to the trouble of doing research and typing things out if your post's just going to vanish for no reason several months later. -_-
Maybe someone with more knowledge and enthusiasm can bridge the gap; I wonder. |

About the 1.1 patch removing eye animations... I have Czech retail 1cd version (Kolekce Klasiky [Gray Casing]) of mafia (should be 1.2 version) and eye animations are there, characters like Ralph blink.
1.2 patches i have are from mafia-game.cz and mafia-game.com and are the original patches and there is a lot of versions including english version but like you said, could just be localizations of 1.1.
Differences between 1.0 and 1.2 are paperclips like you said, when choosing car for Freeride there are preview images, sniper mode button gets unbinnds after every restart, Force feedback changed, linear/unlinear driving changed. That's all i know about differences.
Patches for 1.1 are for Versions: English, France, Germany
Patches for 1.2 are for Versions: Brazil, Czech, English, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Poland, Spain
Oh and BTW the server which hosted mafia 1 patches is still online but only German patches are on it (1.1 and 1.2) ftp://ftp.take2.de/patches/
Did a little research and found that patches 1.1 and 1.2 are different. This is why you thought 1.2 is just localization of 1.1. 1.2 has 9 languages but 1.1 has only 3.
patches 1.1 (english, german, french)
Sometime between 27th November 2002 and 7th February 2003 (Just an estimation)
Czech patch 1.2
15th August 2003
Other language patches of 1.2 (German, English, Brazil, Fracne, Italy, Japan, Poland, Spain)
8th August 2005 |

No no no. Forget that jazz. Rephrase the question. In the English version, what does 1.2 change? No one has ever answered that question. |

Version 1.1 adds car images and collision to that racing track shortcut and some collision in the prison (MISE17-VEZENI)
Version 1.2 changes something in scene2.bin for mission MISE16-KRAJINA
there are also differences in Game.exe, Setup.exe and LS3DF.dll
(I think this is because of updated LS3D Engine or bug fixes) |

Hm I don't think v1.3 is a thing. I think the DVD release was labelled as 1.3 by some people but it's effectively v1.2.
The GOG/Steam release is a monkey-patched 1.2 which has been patched to disable loading of the music .dta package.

Yeah I think a wiki would be great for that.

v1.1 also fixes sound issues for some (integrated?) audio chips. Here's the official changelog (found by Muggy): http://mafiascene.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=127420#127420

I think it's an issue with the forum software or the database. There're a bunch of topics that have gone missing for some reason but I don't think they've been deliberately pruned or something. |

Ehh. I'll do you one better. Where's the patch? Where do you get it? How do you update 1.1? You can't even point to a changelog to substantiate this idea, because there is no changelog, because there is no patch.
There's nothing wrong with 1.2 apparently, but it's very unclear if it does anything differently. I am interested in this Krajina (what part is that?), maybe that could be a way to find a difference; something to do with Morello's AI?

There's a phpBB tool for pruning topics that haven't been updated in [integer] but as you say, that doesn't seem right. I see some old topics (but generally very few). Maybe worth asking Chris; there should be about 10,000 topics and I see around 900 in the forum index. Can't just have people's topics disappearing. |

I don't remember in which version that was, but in one of the versions i noticed that cars get damage textures when they hit something (other cars, ...). I remember that clearly because it looks very nice, especially for a game that old, to have dynamic projections on non static objects. Something that I don't even see a lot nowadays. I think this feature is not on every version of the game. But I might be wrong.
Mafia was ahead of it's time. I mean, they even had real-time reflections!! (they can be seen on some puddles in some missions, as well as on the mirror in the villa-mission.) |

I know what you're talking about! It's like scratchs on the car... I think it has to be on version 1.0 because it doesn't happen on 1.2 |

As you can see there're substantial changes in size for Game.exe, LS3DF.dll (the engine) and a8.dta. To find out more we'd have to diff them which I'm too lazy to do right now. It could be an interesting addition to the wiki, though.
v1.2 definitely uses a different engine version than v1.1 and you can't mix and match Game.exe and LS3DF.dll from the two updates.

MISE16-KRAJINA is the countryside part of the mission (Manhunt).

I just booted up v1.1 and it seems scratches were removed in that version. |

You're reiterating what risan said. But if you have the patch, of course we can find the differences.
It's telling that no one has ever published them before. |

Man, I didn't know that version 1.3 doesn't exist as a standalone patch but only as the new default version for the DVD-ROM, Steam and GOG versions. What a bummer, I downloaded a trainer for ver. 1.3 with very good cheat options and I can't use it with the game I installed from the ver. 1.2 CDs. Guess I'm sticking to using the in-game cheats and the free trainer I downloaded for the game then. |

Hello there,
I tried to install Mafia from the CDs but I had a problem installing the patch 1.2 (Italy), on Windows 7.
The installation blue bar stops at the very end of the process and nothing happens! |

I found cars don't explode so easily in the Steam version.
this nerfs the typical speedrunning approach to Molotov Party as the old explosion domino affect doesn't happen. |
