| Hello, recently I finished the mission "Moonlighting" expecting to be given access to the Model J afterwards, however in free ride it was not unlocked. I thought it might unlock after the game was complete along with the Thor 812, however after finishing the story neither cars were available. In free ride I have tried to steal them and Tommy simply says "I've never seen this lock before". Has this happened to anyone before, and does anyone know how to fix it? Thanks. |

Did you do both the subquests from Lucas Bertoni before (Moonlighting)
and after each mission (after you find Paulie Dead) before Death of Art?
Unless you do these subquests you will not get the cars you mentioned.
After Moonlighting (the bank heist) you don't (a cutscene occurs)
go back to Salieri's after escaping Paulie's apartment you go
to the next mission The Death of Art - it is from when you leave
Paulie's apartment that you can go to Lucas for the Thor 812
after you do something for him; not sure which one, either it's
the one when you have to deliver a package or following the
hooker. I know that the Trauntenberg Model J is the subquest
before you start Moonlighting (the actual bank robbery)
- Paulie will have asked you to get a car (vehicle) and of course
some weapons (at the Twister) from Yellow Pete it is then after
getting the weapons for the bank job that you have to go to
Lucas Bertone after you have cased the bank with Paulie.
To be honest I have not played the game since 2008 so I may
have missed a few details; hopefully someone can fill in anything
I have forgotten to mention. 
*Alternatively when you're in either the story missions or in
Freeride you can just type cornufse and this unlocks
all cars. But it is more fun to learn how to steal them. *

I remember this as well. I was confused why I couldn't steal the Trauntberg Model J even though I had completed the job for Bertone. And now that you've mentioned it, the same goes for Thor 812. I remember I had done all the side jobs for Luca throughout the entire game. To tell you the truth, I never understood why I couldn't unlock these cars after the mission. I remember I got tired of this glitch (supposedly) and downloaded a save game profile where all cars were already unlocked (didn't know about the cheat). Now every time I install Mafia I use this save game as well so I don't have to worry later.

You have to complete a mission with race cars in Extreme to unlock Trautenberg. Not sure about Thor, it should be available after last mission in story mode.

That's a different Trautenberg  I think that is the
Trautenberg 4WD Racer.
The car in question is the Trautenberg Model J.

I'm talking about Model J. I'm 90% sure you have to beat this extreme mission to unlock both Model J and 4WD Racer.

No the Model J is only obtainable after you do the subquest
for Lucas Bertone; I think it's the one where you have to
deliver a package to someone near the bridge Downtown.

The subquest in Freeride Extreme you are thinking of is
when you have to successfully drive a gas guzzling
Trauntenberg J from one point to another without running
out of gas. The car you get for succeeding is actually the
Speedee 4WD.
I've just remember, the *Trautenberg 4WD Racer* is not
available if you have 1.2/1.3 version of the game. This
also applies to the Caeser 8C Mostro (even if you succeed)
in doing the race car exchange subquest in Freeride Extreme.
*I may be wrong but isn't this car already unlocked in Freeride
Day or Night automatically, having completed the Fair Deal
Mission?* 
The problem is that all the old information that used
to be available on the internet in regards to unlocking
cars in Mafia have now been removed where sites have
been shutdown or no longer available - I looked up the
Trauntenberg 4WD Racer and the only info is on the
Mafia Wiki site but it just tells you the specs; not how
to obtain the car

| Thanks for responding, I will try the save game later when I have time to see if it works. to clear things up, I did the missions for Lucas both times to get the cars. To get the 812 you have to follow a hooker to some guys apartment. |

As I stated earlier after both patches were released
a few of the cars were not available but having
remembered someone asking about a tool we used
to have called Mafia Swap, I did find a similar tool
online. I will be uploading this.
tools - it's the first download at the top.
Try this and see if changing back to version 1.0 the
cars will now appear in the cars list for Freeride Day
and Night.
This is a shot in the dark, but I hope it'll help

If you can't get them you could always give the doors a try. It's the works quarter door that gives the cars, right? Or is it the Oakwood door? The Hoboken door?  |

The Works Quarter door (Freeride Small) unlocks
all of Freeride (Day, Night-Countryside (I think))
The door in Hoboken unlocks secret door in Face
Cave. The door in Oakwood unlocks all the
prototype cars in Freeride Extreme iirc.

I opened an account purely to write how I managed because I had the same problem. Both cars exist in the freeride, when you come across one follow him until he parks, then kill the driver after he gets out of the car and wait for the gangsters to pass by in their car. Stop them, have your car ready and get on one side of their car, kill one and shoot the wheel off their vehicle, sit in your car and drive away from the other remaining gangster but not far. To get you there, he will take that parked car you couldn't unlock, for example, we chased Thor 812, and start tracking you; stop your car, kill that remaining gangster and get in the that car(Thor 812 for example), go to the Salieri bar with that car and save the game. When you go out to the menu, freeride, you will have Thor 812 unlocked, you can do the same with Trautenberg Model J
Me and my brother played mafia for years, now that i'm in self-isolation because Covid-19 I started again haha, I barely remembered how we did it, so here's a video that I made about that
