If you have images posted in any forums/topics/threads
on Mafia Scene and you have a free account with Photobarfit
oops I mean Photobucket - you will no longer see them as
they (Photobucket) are now charging for third party hosting.
Your images/photos will look like this

photobucket breaks image links across the internet

PC Mag wrote:
Embedding images on a website or in a
forum post is a very common practice, with those images
usually living on one of the many well-known image hosting
websites. One such host is Photobucket, but a recent change
to its subscription tiers means many millions of images across
the Internet are no longer going to load outside of Photobucket's
own site.

Photobarfit used to be good in that they at one time were
not like other image hosting sites; claiming to always be
free (even with third party hosting) unless you wanted to
have a subscribed account - which was a choice you could
make and one that was not forced upon you.

Alternatives are:

http://imgur.com/

http://googlephotos.com/

https://www.flickr.com/

https://500px.com/

http://www.freeimagehosting.net/

http://tinypic.com/

http://postimage.io/

http://www.imagevenue.com/hostflash.php

These are only suggestions and I would advise
that you check carefully terms and conditions
of each and that if there is free hosting that
indeed it is free and that there is no charge
for hosting any pictures you want to post in
the forums on Mafia Scene or come to think of
it anywhere else.

This is awful, and the upload quality isn't even native so if you download all your pictures, move them to another site and repair the links, the images will have been downloaded from PB in significantly lower quality than they went up and thus look awful when re-uploaded. I'd struggle to find the originals of 99% of my uploads..
I've been uploading pictures to the site for almost ten years, this latest decision of theirs of nothing short of abject greed. Sorry to rant, this is just horriffic.

Asa: You rant all you want my friend, I couldn't agree more.
PB of course you know was acquired by Fox Interactive in
2007; this was planned and is just another proof of corporate
greed.

There is a petition on change.org but not sure if it
would make any difference then again who knows?

Reverse the third-party rule

Your signature Laughing

This is entropy, whittling away at the world. Geocities came, blossomed, and went. Anyone remember MSN groups? No longer.

I've had some good image hosts over the years, but they all sort of come and go. The only reliable host is yourself. This occasion seems to call for some rare memorabilia, hosted by myself.

Stop stealing our bandwidth, NOW!!! Sticking out tongue

People are livid at the change, and for good reason. A LOT of users relied on PB for hosting media, only to be wiped in one fell swoop due to a boneheaded decision. Heh, I'm sure imgur and its fans are laughing at their faces right now. Sticking out tongue

As a way to mitigate the issue, try trawling through Web Archive dumps of forum threads and/or pages where you embedded links to Photobucket-hosted media. Chances are they may have been archived in one way or another.

Sorry for the double-post, but for those browsing the board on Firefox (desktop/Android) or Chrome desktop, you guys and gals might want to check this out:

Firefox:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/photobucket-embedded-fix/

Chrome:
https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/photobucket-embed-fix/naolkcpnnlofnnghnmfegnfnflicjjgj?hl=en-US

This fools Photobucket into thinking that the embedded images are being viewed on their website through referrer spoofing. Basically what a referrer does is to tell the host where their stuff is viewed or downloaded from, and since hotlinking from external sites can affect the host (which is the point of contention here), some sites choose to block outside referrers.

Consider this a band-aid fix though, as Photobucket may get around this hack and lock things down even further; my advice is to install the extension, clear your browser's cache for the old images to load, download all the images you can get, then reupload it some place else.

Slightly confused here, does this display the images client-side or does it fix them for those viewing images you personally embed? Thinking

It tricks photobucket into thinking the images are viewed from their site even if it is being hotlinked somewhere else.
