I believe Mafia was the first game ever (at least in it's genre) to have
popped tires, interactive hydrant fountains, organic steering and organic deformation.
I showed these compared to GTA in my new episode of Unique Details:
Mafia deserves much more credit for it's innovation,
so I'm going to compile a list here of things it did first:
-Wheels/Axel Damage
-Car Hit Zones
-Car staying how you left it (gears, handbrake, wheels etc.)
-Free Aim Drive-by
-Dead Drivers/Passengers
-NPC's park their cars (will sometimes shout at you for stealing)
-Turn Signals
-Roadblocks
let me know if you think of more |

Absolutely loved your video!
I was wondering about the blood print detail, when you step on a pool of blood and leave a trail of red bloody shoeprints as you walk away. I have no idea whether Mafia was the first game to implement this but I really loved that tiny detail |

I'm not sure if Mafia was the first to do this, but I want to share something that I discovered today... I wonder if I'm late to the party, or that's really something new.
When an enemy throws a granade at you, you can "kick" it back at him by shooting at the granade!
Also, unfortunately, Mafia wasn't the first game to do police roadblocks - 2D GTA had them before |
