For anyone interested, I'll give an explanation of the process. Very simple, for as usual I was over complicating a very simple process. Thanks to another post I had on converting jpeg to .i3d, ASM came through for me. (check out the post. btw only .bmp can be used. jpeg's are a no no.)
Use the .4ds manager to inspect the materials and the diffuse textures. Notice the .bmp files. These are what you will have to end up changing (not changing the .bmp name, but just altering its content in whatever way you wish). Take note of them. Next open the folder "MAPS" and search for the desired .bmp image. Now, for something as simple as changing the color of a uniform (as was my case), just open the .bmp file in any photo editor and change to any desired color. Save the image under the exact name as that of the .bmp edited, as this is what file mafia will load while processing in-game. You can also change uniforms between different characters. For example. I changed "FREEgang01" 's coat with "Salman01K" 's coat. So now the gangsters in freeride walk around with white coats instead of the black. To do this, again you will have to use .4ds manager in the same fashion and locate the desired .bmp. Then, simply change the name of Salman01K .bmp image to match that of the FREEgang so mafia reads the modified .bmp instead of the original. Make sure to make copies of the .bmp's before altering completely. Nothing major here, but very cool to be able to tweak minor details like this. |
