Convert .4ds to anything Blender can use ?

As far as I've read, the only way to do it is to put the .4ds in 3DSMAX, convert to .3ds,export and import in blender. And there are issues with that.
I've tried with Zmodeler 1, but any 3ds file i import in Zmodeler from Blender, is empty... WTF ?
Anything else new that can help me, perhaps ? All those scripts for 3DSMAX seem to be from years ago...
