After so many times trying to get Water Shader Mod
to work I finally did it. However there is a small matter
of reflections on the water; they move with the player.
Not sure what causes this, but would be nice to know if
there is a fix.

*BUMP!*

Is there anyway to fix this reflection problem
with Water Shader Mod?

What are your mafia settings? WS works for me at in-game settings maxed out and setup settings like below:

You are using some kind of view distance mod, did you try to run WS without
it? It would be even better to test it without any other mods. Also did you copy correct LS3DF.dll version?

Mafia is an old game so there might be some issues with new hardware drivers - especially with fan made dlls. You could check DX8 to DX9 converter https://github.com/crosire/d3d8to9/releases the 1.4 version works with WS. Download dll and copy it to the game folder.

Other than that it could be GPU driver issue.

Yes I copied the correct LS3DF.dll version

My PC is actually optimized for playing Mafia CoLH
I have had no problems with my GPU and the driver
for it - no crashes when mods installed even
Widescreen fix for Mafia works perfectly.

Yes it seems that WS runs OK without my Optimized Mafia
but tbth given the choice the game looks better with OM.

Water Shader does indeed look good but then it is just that,
water.

Now I know Mr_F is registered on Mafia Scene, perhaps he
would let me know if there is a way to have WS with OM
together without this conflict. Thinking

From what I understand Your optimized mod only increases view distance and does GOLODs UDD cache patch. You can achieve same result with changing view distance in WidescreenFix.ini and it doesn't conflict with WS mod.

Optimized Mafia actually uses GOLOD55's UDD patch all I
did was to edit the scene2.bin files by removing the occluders
and the mlha light and change the draw distance and camera
distance.

Could it possibly be, by removing all the occluders this may
cause the reflection problem? Thinking

So you are saying I can edit the WidescreenFix.ini and
change the view distance - OK I have looked at the
ini file for WideScreenFix but which is the draw distance
and which figures to alter I have no idea Thinking

Oh, and do I still need to patch the cache.bin files with *UDD
the reason I ask is that in the missions folder for WS there
are no cache.bin files only scene2.bin files. Would it be
OK to add the cache.bin files from the extracted original
missions folder; adding these to the appropriate missions
where they would normally be? Thinking

*If I am correct UDD when patching the cache.bin files
makes the textures crisper and sharper?*

[Draw Distance]
Change Distance = 1 - enables this option
New Distance = 600.0 - this is my draw distance for example

Editing cache.bin is not needed at all if you're changing distance using Widescreen.

No, it only makes all of them render from start. To get sharper textures You'd have to set Anisotropic filtering to x16 in Your Mafia GPU driver profile.

As for the draw distance yes I see that the original
in the WideScreenFix.ini has the distance at 600.0
so would changing this to say for example 1000.0
work?

You've seen pictures I have uploaded with my OM
and the buildings are sharp and clear with or without
anisotropic filtering. The only difference is road
markings are sharper and can be viewed at a greater
distance when AF is at x16.

EDIT:

Well as they say "trial and error" so I set the draw
distance to 1500 - set AA to x8 in Nvidia settings
as also AF at x16 - have only played the small
freeride for testing and this is what the game looks
like.

The only other thing I would like to do is increase
the camera distance; in OM I have it set to 1.5
in the scene2.bin files - could I add this in the
Mafia.WidescreenFix.ini and set the value I desire?

Off topic,

man, I just have to say that game is barely recognizable from the one from 15 years ago.

True, however it also shows the dedication that
people have made through modding Wink

I'm glad everything works. You'd have to edit scene2.bin for camera distance. WidescreenFix only allows options that are already listed there.

Yeah! Also I finally sussed what was the problem
with the moving reflections, it was not deleting
the occluders in the scene2.bins it was deleting
the mlha or fog in the light category of the
scene2.bins; oh well you learn something every day. Wink
