*Recreated from a copy on waybackmachine*
How to find out what version of Mafia you have installed:
1: Click on Start/Run and type regedit in the box, then
click OK.
2: In the Registry Editor click on HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/
SOFTWARE/Illusion Softworks/Mafia
3: In the right panel right-click on version and click on Modify
Now you are NOT going to change any of the values..that
would be unwise, but by clicking on Modify you will see the
values that are set, the version is the number at the far right
of those values; please see images below.
PLEASE NOTE:
This is for Windows versions before 7 or 8
for some reason Windows 7 does not have a registry for
Mafia as such and I have not worked out how to find any
entries to apply this as such. _________________

It should be in HKEY_CURRENT_USER on newer/64-bit versions of Windows. |

I don't think this is related to Windows 7+, but more to the question of whether one uses the x86 or x64 flavor of Windows. x64 builds of Windows transparently redirect registry paths to HKLM\Software to HKLM\Software\Wow6432Node for WOW64 processes like Mafia. |

So what would be the actual path to find the string that gives the Mafia version?

The path shown in your screenshot appears to be correct so I don't really know why there's no version value. In my case I only have the value LS3D_setup, but then I didn't install the game but merely copied it over from my old rig.
I assume that both, idir and version, are created by the game/patch installer and I could imagine that version was not present in v1.0 of the game. What version do you have installed? |

I found the path for Windows 7 64 bit in the registry.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Illusion Softworks\Mafia
on the right panel you will see version as in Windows XP just
highlight and right click then modify. The version I have is 1.3

Just out of interest Asa, what folder is your copy of
Mafia installed in? I have mine (installed from the CD's)
in C:\Program Files\Mafia. The installation would not put
it in C:\Program Files (x86) as most 32bit applications are
placed in there. Have you tried a clean install?
Mind you I remember bitd when installing on XP there was
a time when I did not have the version entry in the registry
but that was due to installing the Steam version
I have just uninstalled the CD ROM version and installed the
Steam version and in the registry I too now only have 'LS3D
Setup' and 'idir' _________________

Not sure if this would help but sometimes
clicking right-mouse button on game.exe
then on properties then details; would this
bring up the version for you.
*on a side note: If you try installing any
patches on the Steam version you get
Quote: | "Mafia is not installed on this machine" * |
