Gentleman start your downloads! It’s August the 10th and finally the day of Mafia 2 Demo downloadeth hath come! The download should be available for via Steam for the PC, XBOX Live for the XBOX 360 and the PlayStation Network for the PS3.
A few eager people in our Mafia Game Forum have noted that the download speeds from steam are good. However as of yet we’ve heard no news from anyone trying to download the XBOX or PS3 versions and no news of anyone having finished downloading it!

Yeah tis awesome, i got 3 mb/s dl speed with it. Awesome demo great fun. You can free ride for as long as you like, just die before the 10 min freeroam is up and it resets

I installed steam to download the demo, and it was giving me an error “steam is temporarily unavailable, try again later”. It seems a lot of people are having this issue at the steam powered forums and someone was kind enough to post a video of a fix:

I read up further into this and it appears trying the above mentioned method while in safe-mode with networking (access it by repeatedly pressing the F8 key while your computer is booting up) has worked for some people. Give it a go.

Downloaded it the moment it was uploaded onto xbox live. It is absolutely fantastic!

Well imho heck with pacific time, got to get that stream crapola tool to get it … like they just can’t upload it on normal server like in old days … jeezus.

OMFG.. it now bloody works… Lomikar.. right click on the Mafia II Demo on steam.. under
downloads.. then click on properties.. click on tab local files and click Verify Integrity of Game Cache.. it will check what you have so far and download more components.. keep doing this until there is no more to download.. Go to Prog Files Valve > Steam > SteamApps.. Common and look for DirectX and install that then install the PhysX.

For those wanting to play the demo without time limitations: you can hex-edit the executable file (on Windows 7 located in “C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\mafia ii – public demo\pc\Mafia2.exe”).
Go to address 000F5380, look for D9 56 4C and change to 90 90 90 as can be seen here:

I used HxD as my hex editor. Can be downloaded here: http://mh-nexus.de/en/hxd/. Just edit the values and save the file. The timer will be frozen at 9:59. it will warn you about time expiring but don’t pay attention to it. It will eventually stop.

well i guess mafia 2 is alot better than the 1st one now i had problems trying to run that demo on my laptop n mines a duel core laptop weird eh? lol but anyways yh they have put more effort i seen videos u can open the doors engone boot all that looks kool and the way the cars burn when they explode awsome

Yes it’s supposed be out Internationally Aug 11th between 11AM – 2PM for PSN.
Mafia II definitely benefits from a Quad Core.. yeah it runs on my PC but I still will
need to upgrade on the GPU.

I can answer my own question. That file is the demo and steam bundled together. It was useful for me because I could download the demo on a good connection and then bring it to a different computer.
